Location is one of many factors students should consider when applying to GESI. The program offers a variety of settings for community-based development work, ranging from a vibrant city in Bolivia’s landlocked Andes Mountains to a small agricultural community in Western Kenya, near Lake Victoria. Each location has been carefully selected, in collaboration with our partners, to maximize student learning and community impact.
When applying, students indicate their first choice program location. During the interview, applicants and GESI staff will consider several factors such as language ability, structure of GESI partnerships, intended focus of their work, and characteristics of the site location.
Upon completion of the interview process, applicants will then determine their ultimate first and second choice locations, which will be taken into consideration for final placement. In the end, the application process is structured to balance student preferences with the needs of the program, our partners and host communities.
